What is Art?
Is it the way your soul lights up in joy? Is it the way your mind thinks critically? Is it the way you explore shapes, colors, and lines?
Art Takes Many Forms. And my Art is Gardening.
The way I arrange colorful flowers next to vegetables because I know their hues complement each other, and their scents repel pests ;)
The way I place healing plants like calendula by the entrance so folks feel its calming powers as they arrive.
The way I plant seeds, unsure of if they will all sprout, but believing in the beauty to come.
The way I harvest veggies and flowers with care.
The way I build community, welcoming new and old faces into the garden. It’s all art.

And lately, I’ve been exploring my inner artist in more traditional ways too.
Maybe growing food is still a work in progress. But here are other ways to unlock the gardener & artist within.
Making watercolor paints from plant material like roses, turmeric, and beets.
Pressing flowers and turning them into framed arrangements.
Creating wildflower seed paper from recycled scraps.
Arranging veggie harvests in colorful ways
Journaling about the way you feel when you enter a garden
BONUS: Plant a seed, any seed! If it grows or not, you are a gardener :)

Tapping into gardening is tapping into the artist within.
Tapping into nature is unlocking creativity we forgot we had.
The beauty of the garden is that we’re all growing every day. In our skills, our patience, our gratitude, and our creativity.
Oh, and by the way… Gardening has no age!
This past month, I had the joy of sharing eco-arts with teens who lit up while making their seed cards and painting with plants.
Here are some of their beautiful creations.

If you’d like to explore eco arts with your community—whether it’s with youth, adults, or intergenerational groups—I’d love to connect. Feel free to book a discovery call to see how we can partner to help your organization unlock the gardener (and artist) within.
My Message to Each of You:
Explore the art of gardening. Brush your hands through the grass, feel the dirt beneath your feet, play with the hues of nature, feel the abundance of your harvest. Rejoice and share in community. Journal about the way the breeze kisses your cheeks, or how the sun slaps your skin.
A summer filled with art awaits you.
Sending light and Love,
xx Brittney
