What happens when families grow together?
We’re creating a space where elders can pass down stories while learning new skills. Parents get to re-learn that it’s okay to be a beginner. Kids discover that their hands can care for something that grows
There’s something deeply reciprocal that happens in the soil.
Where adults get to explore that childlike wonder of planting their first seed.
And children get to explore responsibility, nurturing a tiny plant the way their family nurtures them.
It’s a little messy.
Very uncertain.
Filled with trial and error.
And yet, just like family, it’s beautiful when you give it time, patience, and care.
Because at the heart of Gardens of Sol is a truth I return to again and again:
ANYONE can learn to grow.

5 Easy Seeds to Plant Together!
Peas: They are quite literally… easy peasy!
Salad Greens: Try loose-leaf varieties and see their quick growth unfold
Radish: In just 28 days, you can call yourselves gardeners.
Tomatoes: When the warm season comes around, it can be as easy as planting the seeds from the tomatoes you buy at the grocery store!
Butterflyweed: A native flower to most of the US. Attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies to your garden.
Small but Mighty Stories from Recent Workshops
Two recent moments have stuck with me while hosting family workshops at Newark and Paramus Public Library.
I watched as young siblings learned how to plant their first seeds.
A mother-son duo got to explore their creativity by creating pressed flower bookmarks, incorporating each of their personal styles.
And it brings on those full-circle moments, reminding me:
Gardening is never just about the food. It’s about what we plant in each other.

What you’re doing is awesome Brittney! Enjoyed learning more and the bonus tip about tomatoes. I usually buy my seed packets, but am starting to save seeds from different veggies we already eat to grow a thriving garden this summer!
