What if I told you… I went from hosting a full-on bunny buffet in my garden to planting a thriving ecosystem filled with beautiful blooms, repelling small mammals, and gnarly aphids without a single drop of chemicals.
Instead, by simply changing how I grew food, I invited in swarms of butterflies and pollinators that made my garden THRIVE. I promise you, it’s easy. And it can be your future too.
As an organic grower, I’ve never been comfortable with the idea of spraying chemicals on food I’ve not only nurtured with my own hands, but will also consume and share with my community.
But I’ve also stood in the garden, completely frustrated, watching aphids swarm my kale or a bunny demolish an entire row of freshly planted greens. It’s enough to make anyone feel at odds with nature.
But here’s the truth I’ve come to learn: we don’t have to fight nature, we get to collaborate with it.
That’s the beauty of companion planting with flowers. These blooms do so much more than add color—they protect, attract, and support. They’re nature’s built-in defense system, working quietly (and beautifully) to keep pests at bay and welcome the pollinators that help your garden thrive.
Harmony in the garden is possible. It all starts with planting a few powerful flowers.
Here are my Top 5 Edible Flowers to Get Started Companion Planting
Calendula – Heals skin, attracts pollinators, and blooms all season. Great in teas and salves.
Nasturtium – Edible leaves and flowers with a spicy bite. Repels aphids and whiteflies.
Borage – A star-shaped blue flower that bees love. Also improves soil and tastes like cucumber!
Chamomile – Great for making tea and beneficial for other plants’ root health.
Marigolds – AKA - BUNNY repellent.
