A Letter to the Garden Dreamers, Black Thumbs & Scaredy Cats
Yes, I am talking to you. & A Free Workshop to Help you Kickstart your Garden Dreams
You know that moment when you say to yourself, This time is going to be different. I’m going to change. I’m finally going to do the thing!
And then welp… You never do it.

You never fill the raised bed.
You never make that trip to Home Depot.
You never make the veggie broth from the scraps you’ve been saving in the freezer for a whole year.
I’ve been there.
For the last six weeks, I’ve been telling myself: I’m going to plant butternut squash for the first time! This week. For real. And this morning I FINALLY did it, while crawling out of the depths of procrastination.
But here’s the truth that links us.
Whether it's starting your dream garden, planting a new, unfamiliar crop, or just taking that next scary step. Oftentimes, we hesitate because we’re afraid it won’t work out. Having never harvested or grown butternut squash in my 8 years of organic food growing, my brain was siloed in the narrative: what if the plant doesn’t bear fruit? SILLY... I know, right?
We often sit in the what ifs.
Rather than basking like in the, “What if we get it right?”
As an urban garden educator, I can assure you, you are not alone in your garden fears. Time & time again, I hear folks say:
What if the bunnies eat my beans AGAIN?
What if my black thumb turns my lettuce into coal?
What if I plant a seed and it never grows?
But here’s a better question:
What if it works?
In a world obsessed with perfection, what if all it takes is one planted seed to call it a success?
What if your tomato plant gives you just one tomato while it’s hanging for its life? What if your sun scorched Cucumbers make a lopsided comeback?
What if the seed never grows… but you planted it anyway?
That counts too.
